Toon Boom Tip of the Week #20 Rigging a Head in Toon Boom Animate Pro or Harmony

Following up on last week’s Tip of the Week series Rigging a Head in Animate Pro or Harmony animation tutorials our resident expert and Professional Product Manager, Lilly Vogelesang, will continue to explain the best and most efficient way to Rig a Character’s Head  in our professional software. This process will work equally well in Toon Boom Animate Pro and Harmony.

Week 2 of Rigging a Head in Animate Pro or Harmony

There are three videos:-

PART1 – Rigging a Head in Animate Pro or Harmony

In the first video which lasts around six and a half minutes, Lilly uses an avatar of herself to discuss:- preparing your Artwork; The rest of this video deals with how to work with the nose using underlay layers.

Part 2 – Rigging a Head in Animate Pro or Harmony 

In the second part which lasts 11 minutes , Lilly will continue by explaining:- How you can rig the eyes; How to add a Peg to the drawings; She will then go on to discuss Using a Pass-Through composite to gather drawing layers together; You will find out about Cutting the facial features off with the face; As the video continues you will learn about Adding the Layer Properties as a docked windowAnimating the Facial Features with peg hierarchies; and finally, you will learn about Grouping together the eye and eyebrow under a peg.

 

Part 3- Rigging a Head in Animate Pro or Harmony 

In the final part  of the tutorial,which lasts 9 minutes and 21 seconds, Lilly concludes the videos by explaining:- How to prepare the nose; Cutting off the front part of the nose with the back partAnimating the nose off the faceRigging the eyebrow; and some examples of head rigs on other characters.

It’s really great when we get feedback  from users of our software. Our good friend Zeb Toonz  at ZebToonz.com is a longtime user of our software.   Zeb recently took time out from his busy animation schedule to take a look at the latest Toon Boom Tip of the Week called Rigging a Head and decided to try it out for himself.  As Zeb commented, ”After watching Lilly’s latest tip [of the week] on how to rig a head I decided to give it a try with a character I am currently working on. It is just a 3/4 to 3/4 turn but it worked pretty well.”

Toon Boom Tip of the Week #19 Rigging a Head in Toon Boom Animate Pro or Harmony

In the latest installment of our Tip of the Week series of Animation tutorials our resident expert and Professional Product Manager, Lilly Vogelesang, will walk you through the best and most efficient way to Rig a Character’s Head  in our professional software. This process will work equally well in Toon Boom Animate Pro and Harmony.

Rigging a Head in Animate Pro or Harmony – Part 1 

In the first video which lasts around eleven minutes, Lilly will discuss:- Digitizing a traditional process; How to prepare your Artwork and correct labelling of layers; She will then go on to discuss how to adding pegs; You will find out about ordering the network; Learn about how to gather all of the facial features under a peg; This is followed by Rigging the Eyes; Lilly will then take a look at Using a Composite to group elements together; and finally, adding a Colour Override to isolate the skin colour.

Rigging a Head in Animate Pro or Harmony – Part 2 

In the second part which lasts 10 minutes and 48 seconds, Lilly will continue by explaining How you can check the effect with the Display module; How to add a Master Peg to animate; She will then go on to discuss Animating the Head; You will find out about using the Peg Selection mode; As the video continues you will learn about Adjusting the Hairline and animating the hair; Converting pencil lines to brush lines for the Cutter effect; and finally, you will learn about Animating the eyes in perspective.

This News on Toon Boom Animation blog has surpassed the total views it got in all of 2011   …and it’s only May!

It’s a remarkable piece of news and I would like to thank you all for liking this blog and for being so involved in the animation community.

So far this year we have a whopping 29,570 views exceeding last years total of 25,987. If this keeps on track we are looking at approximately 88,000 views this year! I’m really going to try and get even more.
