Toon Boom’s good friend and Archie Comics Co-CEO Nancy Silberkliet recently gave an interview with KUSI NEWS on Good Morning San Diego on day 3 of Comic-Con. Nancy talks about the impact comics and comicbooks have had on her life and how the messages in her comics can transfer as life messages to children. By using the big issues of today she can provide serious learning messages and add a humourous side to them to provide the children with a “chuckle” as they read and learn. As an example she cites “The Great San Francisco Earthquake” a story in “The Best of Archie Comics“, where what happened during the earthquake is explained in a funny way.
Nancy has a mission to promote reading and to “engage the children in the love of reading”. She further mentions how children can be made aware of serious topics, such as the issues surrounding plastic.
She is also raising awareness and helping children deal with the extremely important social issues with her Rise Above Social Issues Foundation, which addresses challenging issues such as bullying, obesity, literacy. The Foundation is developing a series of educational comic books that focus on these issues and encourage literacy and confidence so that youth can become positive influences on their peers.
Nancy’s Rise Above! comic book brings these issues to children and helps them to master these challenges. Rise Above! will be available soon.
