Toon Boom Animation president and CEO Joan Vogelesang received a special Humanitarian Prize at The World Animation Feature Films & VFX Summit in Marina Del Rey, California.
The award, presented by Animation Magazine president Jean Thoren in front of animation industry leaders, was given to Ms. Vogelesang in recognition of “her tireless efforts to develop new markets in animation all over the world and helping numerous studios and educational institutions train animators and create jobs in a fast-changing market“.
As a direct result of Joan Vogelesang’s personal involvement in the field, she opened and developed new markets in China, India, Africa, South America, The Caribbean and The Middle East resulting in the creation of thousands of studios, schools and jobs over the years.
Ms. Vogelesang has over 30 years of experience as a senior executive responsible for product design and engineering teams, international business development, customer care and operational management in large and small organizations. She is regularly invited to be a guest speaker at international events. These events include; the Asia Animation Conference, the ChangZhou Animation Festival, the HangZhou Animation Festival, eLearning Africa, FRAMES and NASSCOM Animation in India.
As a sought-after orator she also talks at universities such as the McGill Business School in Montreal and the Telfer School of Management in Ottawa as well as export organizations such as the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters about building international business. Additionally, she acts as a judge on jury panels at animation competitions. Ms. Vogelesang sits on the Board of the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University in Montreal.
Toon Boom recently received a Primetime Emmy® Engineering Award for their Storyboard Pro digital storyboarding software. “Storyboard Pro is the only true storyboarding application that offers all the key tasks that storyboard artists require for any type of project, be it animation or live-action”, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences stated.
Amongst the audience at the event were fellow Toon Boom employees, as well as a group of animation professionals from The Caribbean who were touring animation facilities and studios in the United States at Toon Boom’s invitation.
